The Louvre – Lens Museum
Take Highway A1 and after a 45 minutes' drive discover the masterpieces hosted by the new Louvre-Lens Museum. Opened in 2012 the Louvre-Lens Museum has been erected in the former coal-mine area of Nord-Pas de Calais. Its 5 contemporary lines buildings, on a 20 hectares (50 acres) landscaped park are the symbol of the successful regional redevelopment. The semi-permanent exhibitions feature art collection in close partnership with the Musée du Louvre (Paris). Temporary exhibitions are designed with major international museums. 7 000 m2 (75 000 square feet) upon 28 000 m2 are opened to the public: Galerie du Temps (Time Gallery), Galerie d'Exposition Temporaire (Temporary Exhibitions Pavilion), Pavillon de Verre (Glass Pavilion) featuring 600 to 800 major artworks from the Louvre –Paris, Reserves to be visited.
In addition educational workshops, an auditorium, a media –center, a book and souvenir shop, a coffee-shop and 3 restaurants (amongst which a gourmet – restaurant are available for your pleasure.
